for SAP FI Period Open / Close, there are 3 points of practical settings.

Practical Setting 1: Disable "Transport Request"

OB52: Open/Close FI Periods requires transport request.

In sap default , Transaction:OB52 require transport request or client dependent setting allowed in SCC4.

In production client, you do not care about transport request and client settings.

OB52 run without transport request.

In client role setting in SCC4 , "Production" client allow you to run OB52 without transport request.

In not production client, OB52 require transport request in sap default settings.

in not production client, you can change to OB52 without customizing request based on following Note.

This note will change to "OB52 without transport setting" by instance level.

opening/closing FI Period can be controlled by background job with sap abap program.

you can use abap prgram : RFOB5200 : Posting Periods: Change Periods

Be aware of abap program : RFPERIOD_OPEN and RFPERIOD_CLOSE are not supported in S/4 HANA.

The opening/closing FI Period should be managed and monitored.

You can check the change log in Table:T001B Permitted Posting Period.

In sap default settings, the change log for table in opening/closing FI Period is activated.
